Small Organic Farmers’ Association (SOFA)
The Small Organic Farmers’ Association (SOFA) is one of Sri Lanka’s leading farmer-owned organizations dedicated to promoting sustainable organic agriculture, ethical trade, and rural community development. Established in 1997 with 189 smallholder farmers, SOFA has grown into a network of more than 3,600 certified organic farming families across Sri Lanka.
SOFA empowers smallholder farmers through organic certification, technical training, climate-smart agricultural practices, and market access while ensuring fair and transparent benefit sharing. The organization promotes environmentally responsible farming that protects biodiversity, improves soil health, and preserves natural ecosystems for future generations.
Through its commercial partners, Ethical Farmers (Pvt) Ltd and Ethical Teas (Pvt) Ltd, SOFA exports premium organic spices, herbs, essential oils, coconut products, and Ceylon tea to international markets. Products are fully traceable from farm to customer and comply with internationally recognized quality, food safety, and organic standards.
